The Big Smoke: Kung Hei Fat Choi

The first ever blog post...since 1st of January has already passed and this blog is launching at a pretty random time, it seemed fitting that I start it all today in the Chinese New Year - the Year of the Snake! The snake has a mixed reputation in China. It is associated with wisdom, beauty and intelligence but also pride and anger. The festivities had started on Friday with Ping Pong giving out fortune cookies on the tube with their menu info on the inside...slightly disappointing not to have a fortune in there but quite clever marketing from them at the same time!

My mum was visiting this weekend and we went to London Chinatown to check out the festivities (despite the awful weather). There was lots of music, a parade, dancing, a concert in Trafalgar Square and plenty of stalls with Chinese food and trinkets. The sound of the beating drums made it a lot more fun to stand in the rain! We also went to Judy's Affordable Vintage Furniture Flea in York Hall in Bethnal Green which was great fun as always...I looked at some small white suitcases but in the end opted to search further on good old Ebay. I'll be using them instead of boring Ikea drawers to store some stuff in my room.
